Did you know that “Serenata de Amor” is no longer a Sugarplum? Perhaps you haven't even noticed this change in the candy that is Garoto's flagship, which is also one of the most popular delicacies in Brazil.
This is one more of the company's changes, whose sale was finalized on June 7th. Among them, perhaps the most striking is the change of packaging.

What do you mean the Serenata de Amor is not a bonbon?
The previous version of Serenata de Amor had on its packaging the description that that product was a “stuffed bonbon”. However, the inscription was changed.
Now it reads “wafer stuffed with cream cashew nut, chocolate flavor”. That's right, now Serenata is a wafer. If you didn't know, now you know. And probably have a lot of questions.
Why did this happen?
According to the G1 website, chocolates and products made with it are subject to a 5% rate of the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI). The wafer, on the other hand, does not pay this toll.
This is a simple product change, but one that, in the end, can generate a lot of savings for the company without harming the consumer.
And, namely, this process is fully within the law, as explained by lawyer Sâmara Gomes in an interview with G1. However, she also stated that the change goes beyond a simple nomenclature on the packaging.
“To have this change, it was necessary to change the composition of Serenata de Amor, so that it was possible to change its tax classification as well”, she explained. "The sweet reduced the amount of chocolate to stop being classified as such, including only one cream of it", she added.
According to her, this is possible within a tax planning. “They sought to maintain the flavor and, with the change in packaging, it even contributed to maintaining the crispness. But it was all very well thought out, with a focus on tax savings ”, she concluded.
