New information shows that the application “Find my device”, which offers geolocation services for devices with android, will receive an interesting update soon.
According to informants on the 91mobiles website, the app will be connected to an ultra-wide band (UWB), which will allow location of mobile devices even if they are turned off, that is, without needing access to the GPS of the gadgets.

Currently, Android devices can only be located while turned on and with the native app's geolocation enabled. This is ineffective in case of theft or loss, for example.
Still according to 91mobiles, in the person of the informant Kuba Wojciechowkski, the new technology will be called Pixel Power-off Finder, implying which will be available first for Pixel line smartphones, developed directly by Google, which controls the Android operating system.
Kuba also explained that the location service will be used through the bluetooth chips of the devices, which will relay the geolocation signals to each other when the cell phones are off.
The new function was found in Android 14 in its “pure” version, that is, without any customization from other cell phone manufacturers. It is this original version of Android that is shipped on devices in the Pixel line.
Rumors are nothing new
Rumors about the new function have been circulating on the networks since 2021, when other informants said they had found indications of a new functionality similar to the “Buscar” app, on iOS, but incorporated in devices with Android.
In any case, it is not yet known whether the update to “Find my device” will be exclusive to the Pixel line or intended for other Android devices.
Google has already announced that in 2023 it will launch the Pixel 8 line, with its latest generation devices. Even leaks about the hardware of the new cell phones already point to specifications that support an ultra-wideband location service.
