It is an initiative of the Hawaiian Islands, who mapped several countries, with emphasis on those that are touristic, and conventional tips. In all there are 162 different countries, with illustrations to represent each region and comparisons between different prices around the world.
The site shows that in most countries, more specifically in 66 of them, it is conventional to tip 10 percent. This value is common especially in European countries, where most employees expect this minimum contribution after providing the service.
Differences in tips
A fact that draws attention on the map is the fact that in 88 percent of the countries, there is no culture of tipping for transportation services, such as taxis or Uber. For those that do exist, there is almost general agreement that 10 percent of the trip price is the most appropriate amount to pay.
On the other hand, 141 of the 162 countries on the map consider it okay to tip hotel staff. In these cases, there is also a consensus that the value does not need to be high, as tips are generally offered that are around US$ 1, but can also be 50 cents.
