According to Procon SP, scams involving food apps grew by 186%. The comparison takes into account the period from January to May 2021 in relation to 2020. The call delivery scam also uses card cloning.
Basically, the scam works using credit card data. There is no need to pickpocket, steal or reproduce a copy of the card. Only the data is enough for the embezzler to apply the crime.

In this way, the victim does not have the feeling of being harmed. Depending on the amounts discounted, the cardholder only realizes the lack of money after days or months.
In a video that circulates on social media, the application of the coup was spotted and publicized. A courier records card details without the victim noticing. He just uses a speech to be alone with the document.
The person hands over the card to be inserted into the machine. Then the delivery man moves away, simulating the absence of an internet signal. “I'll get the signal from the machine, ok? When there is a lot of demand on the street, they go crazy”, says the scammer.
With the card data in hand, the coup is ready to be carried out. Just make purchases over the internet or try to make payments online.
To apply the delivery scam, it is enough for the criminal to take over some data. Name, number, salary and CVV, all these data are printed on the card.
After completing the delivery, the victim does not even realize that he was targeted by a criminal in that short time.
Always record the occurrence
Even if it is difficult to predict or even prevent a coup, always register the fact. The Secretariat of Public Security of São Paulo advises to draw up an Occurrence Bulletin.
“It is essential to record criminal incidents, either at a physical police station or through the Electronic Police Station, so that crimes are properly investigated and perpetrators arrested. In the case of embezzlement, criminal representation by the victim is required, as determined by law,” said BBC News in a note.
On the other hand, whenever possible, avoid physical payment for delivery. Prefer to pay for the order online, is what Procon suggests.
