The three new traffic laws
Drivers can access Law N 14. 229/2021 to check how the update of the Brazilian Traffic Code turned out. In this case, some changes have already been integrated and applied in Brazil, but others will only come into effect in January 2023. Thus, citizens should be careful not to be surprised by possible notifications.
- Fines for Company Vehicles
Until the 2021 change in the CBT, there was a multiplication of the fine amount by the number of times a company vehicle received the notification for not identifying the driver. However, now the fine will be twice the amount before, but without the multiplication.
- Overcoming overweight
Through updates to the CBT, fines for overweight vehicles were regularized. In this case, now the fine will only be imposed upon weighing, as well as the manufacturer must notify the weight limit explicitly. However, drivers who exceed the recommended weight can earn up to 4 points on their driver's license. In addition, there will also be a fine in the amount of R$ 130.16.
- Cancelation of driver's license
Previously, the Law determined that the CNH was withdrawn from the moment the infraction was notified. Then, the document would be suspended until the end of the process. Even if the driver opted for the appeal, the suspension would continue until the whole process came to an end. However, now the driver will be able to keep his document while the appeal analysis takes place, so that the final impeachment will only come with the end of the process.
