Dream manipulation through sound

Nightmares can affect both children and adults in terms of quality of sleep and day-to-day life. They are more common in people with certain mental health conditions.

One of the forms of treatment is through medication, in addition to a cognitive-behavioral technique called Image Test (RT), which consists of patients thinking about their nightmares and trying to imagine a happy ending for he. This form of treatment is not 100% effective and, therefore, researchers have sought a new form of therapeutic treatment.

New way to get around nightmares

Through scientific studies, some researchers have discovered a way to better prevent frightening nightmares. Such prevention consists of a sound dose played during the sleep period, thus increasing the therapeutic treatment.

According to researchers at the University of Geneva, through scientific studies, it was possible to conclude that people can perceive dreams and even odors during sleep. Memory reactivation works and is able to associate the sound with a newly formed or learned memory.

The researchers looked at 36 people with nightmare disorders who were exposed to sound during sleep, monitoring their brain activity over a few weeks. They divided the volunteers into 2 groups, one of these groups was exposed to sound and went through the RT treatment process and the other only went through the RT process.

Thus, it was possible to conclude that all participants reported fewer nightmares and that those who were exposed to sound during sleep reported even fewer nightmares.
