The objects are weighed and count points for the class and the school. According to the project coordinator, Professor Cristina Alves Ribeiro, the community also participates. All because of the influence of students.
“It's quite common for people who aren't students, or don't have children at school, to end up getting involved. They take the material to school because they know that the recyclables truck will pass that day. We have a specific calendar.”, detailed the teacher.
The initiative is from the Education Department of the municipality and is in its second edition.

Student Letícia Camargo, from the ninth grade at the Santa Helena municipal school, receives help from neighbors to collect the material. “I ask if they have recyclables to collect, because we're doing a recyclables gymkhana, or if they want to leave it with me, I'll stop by,” she said.
Teacher Dadryhan Morghani, from the São Vicente municipal school, teaches sustainability to children in the first years of elementary school. The teacher tells how the themes are worked on in the classroom. It also reports how interest in the initiative has grown in the local community.
