Heroic act: man faces 3.6-meter alligator to rescue dog

How far would you go to save your dog's life? One man – very fearless, by the way – faced a 3.6 meter long alligator to prevent his pet from becoming the reptile's lunch.

The situation happened at Riverside Park, in Oviedo, Florida (United States). The man, the dog and one other person were walking along the Little Econ River, city communications secretary Lisa McDonald told Fox News.

She told that the alligator of more than 3 meters surprised and grabbed the dog. It was then that the man jumped on the reptile's back to try to remove the dog from the alligator's mouth.

How was the dog and the man after the alligator attack?

Still according to Fox News, the dog was rescued and is now being treated at a veterinary hospital. According to Billy Girard, an official with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the animal will make a full recovery.

However, the man's health status was not revealed by the local press.

According to information from the New York Post, emergency services such as firemen, paramedics or police, were not called to help. Furthermore, park officials didn't find out about what happened until the next day.

But what about the 12-foot big guy?

According to information from the Fox 35 Orlando television channel, the management of Riverside Park contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission after the incident.

Armed with all available information, authorities captured the 12-foot alligator in the park. Unfortunately, his outcome was not the best possible.

As broadcast by the TV station, the reptile was sacrificed.

It is estimated that there are over a million alligators in Florida, but attacks by them on humans are not common. There is also not much news about attacks on dogs.

Authorities ask residents to be more careful at this time of year, when the mating season for these animals begins. During this period, alligators become more aggressive and roam more, looking for females.
