Have you ever witnessed two cats interacting? If so, you must have noticed the huge mess they make. And the big question is, are they simply joking or fighting? Should I or shouldn't I separate? Well, studies will clarify this doubt for you.

According to studies published by the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice, Slovakia, there is a big difference between the two behaviors mentioned above and, therefore, it is important that the owners know identify.

For the research, the researchers generated some videos to examine the behavior of 210 domestic cats when they were placed in interaction situations.

Understand in detail the conclusions of the study

A total of 105 videos were made available on YouTube, where it was possible to analyze behavioral practices such as: struggle, suffering, vocalizations and immobile postures, such as squatting.

After analyzing these categories in each of the 210 cats, the researchers described three groups of happiness: playful, combative or immune.

In summary, they said that when animals are younger and are fighting without making any kind of sounds, they are just playing. However, when there are vocalizations and chases, they are, in fact, fighting.

When there is prolonged interactivity, they described it as playful. They can be noticed when the animal is lying on its back, or through aggressive behaviors, such as arching its back and retreating.

The author of the study, Noema Gajdoš‑Kmecová, says the importance of observing behaviors, because depending on the context, struggles can be positive or negative. When it involves claws and howls, it gets more serious.

She also adds that when cats become very noisy and avoid physical contact, they are signs that the situation may be changing for the worse.
