One of the most awaited news for Industry Day – celebrated this Thursday, May 25th – is the government's announcement at the Fiesp event on the reduction of car prices. The goal is to offer models between R$ 50,000 and R$ 60,000, seeking the support of the states in reducing the ICMS, in addition to reducing the IPI and the profit margins of automakers and dealerships.

Reduction in car prices: understand
Measures will be implemented that include subsidized interest rates and longer financing terms, in addition to discuss the possibility of using part of the workers' FGTS as a "guarantee fund" in cases of default.
High interest rates are pointed out by automakers as an obstacle to sales. In addition to popular cars, actions are also being considered to reduce the prices of vehicles with values of up to R$ 100,000, which do not fit into this category. Currently, the most economical models available in Brazil are the Renault Kwid and Fiat Mobi, both priced at R$69,000.
Automakers excited about potential state support and government subsidies
The expectation of the auto sector is that these measures will boost sales, which have been facing a drop or stagnation due to the pandemic. In addition, the auto industry has faced temporary interruptions in production and reduced work shifts to adjust to demand.
Another measure under discussion is the gradual reintroduction of the Import Tax on eletric cars, which has been reset since 2015, aiming to encourage local production of these vehicles and flex-fuel hybrids. However, this proposal is seen by some manufacturers as a setback for the country.
The event at Fiesp will feature panel discussions on the new industrial policy, tax reform, deindustrialization, challenges of geopolitics and financing for the development of the industry, in addition to the strengthening of small and medium companies. Authorities such as President Lula da Silva, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and ministers are expected to be present, with Governor Tarcísio de Freitas closing the event.
