A nutritionist innovated by recommending a substitute food for coffee to give energy. It is the plum, a fruit that, according to the nutritionist, has been ignored or underestimated in terms of its energy potential.

Prunes are often used by people who have digestive problems, but they can serve as a good source of energy in the form of sugars. One advantage is that the sugar in prunes does not rapidly increase blood glucose concentration.

Why plum?

As already mentioned, prunes provide a natural source of sugars without affecting blood glucose concentrations. The advantage is given by the fact that, sometimes, high variations in the blood glycemic rate can cause slowness.

However, plums have a low glycemic content, avoiding this risk and still serving as an energy source. The amount of prunes for energy varies depending on the size of the fruit, but about 30 grams a day is a good amount.

This equals about 3 or 4 medium plums.

Another advantage of plum

In addition to boosting energy, daily consumption of prunes supports bone health as per the aging. This information was obtained by a study, carried out in 2022, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, which found that consumption of 50 grams of prunes reduced the loss of bone mineral density in the hips of women in menopause.

How to add prunes to the diet?

The uses for plums are diverse. The main thing is in liquid recipes, such as juices, vitamins and smoothies. They can also be used to make cakes or salads.
