Beer in ancient times

The act of serving drinks in the company of friends is very old and, of course, when done in moderation and at the appropriate time, it becomes another moment of leisure. Know that this custom dates back to very ancient times, since breweries began to take their first steps. We will see?

The farmers of the East were the discoverers of the property of grains, in 9000 BC. Ç. A combination of barley and wheat gave rise to a drink called rudimentary beer.

The golden drink already had its value in the dawn of civilization, so much so that it served as a bargaining chip in Mesopotamia in the year 6000 BC. Ç.

The first writings related to beer date from 3500 BC. Ç. Asians, Europeans, Germans and Celts registered the success of the drink throughout the region of Europe and the Middle East.

But it was in Germany, in the year 1040, that the commercial production of beer began, more precisely in the monastery of Weihenstephan, in Freising. The brewery founded there is the oldest and is still in operation today.

In the year 1400, hops (an aromatic plant) were added to the composition of traditional beers. The substance imparts a characteristic (bitter) flavor and helps preserve the drink.

The standardization of beer emerged in 1516, in Germany. The ingredients established by the “Bavaria Law of Purity” would be: barley, hops and water.

Only in 1808 did the drink arrive in Brazil to stay. The Portuguese brought the product that would prove to be a national passion.

And already in the year 1810, to celebrate the drink's success, the annual Oktoberfest event began in Munich, Germany. It's the biggest beer festival in the world.

New purification methods originated what we know today as “Pilsen” beer. The process created by Josef Groll in 1842, in the Czech Republic, gives the light color and refreshing flavor of today's beers.
