Netflix returns to the top of streaming after second consecutive fall of the competitor

Netflix has returned to being the most subscribed streaming service in the world… But thanks to a skid from second place. A disney+ lost approximately 4 million subscriptions. With that, he fell to the vice-leadership, making room for the red platform.

The loss mainly comes from the Disney+Hotstar subscription number, the version of the service offered in India and in some countries in Southeast Asia.

It is estimated that the 4 million signatures took place between January and March 2023. However, this was the company's second consecutive decline. At the end of last year, Mickey Mouse streaming had already registered a drop of 2.4 million subscribers.

As said, the main factor responsible for the drop in the platform was the drop in the subscription offered by the Indian combo. This happened because Mickey's company lost the rights to broadcast Indian Premier League cricket matches.

Now, adding all the products offered (Disney +, Disney + Hotstar, Hulu and ESPN +), the company has 231.3 million total subscriptions. But despite that, it beat Wall Street's expectations for earnings and revenue.

Meanwhile, the Netflix closed its first half with 232.5 million paid subscribers. In this way, the streaming platform has once again become the most subscribed in the world.

But Netflix better get smart, huh?

Paramount has been standing out little by little in the market. In mid-February, the company announced a gain of more than 10 million subscribers. It is worth remembering that the company embraces Paramount +, Pluto TV, Showtime, Noggin and BET +. The company already has more than 77 million subscribers.

In addition, there is great anxiety in the market for the Max's official release, former HBO Max that will now also have productions from Warner Bros and Discovery. The novelty hits the US market on May 23. It is estimated that the launch of the platform for Brazil and other Latin American countries will take place in September this year.
