Good news for drivers who live in the state of São Paulo, after all, the government announced an increase in the 100% discount on IPVA. With this, more than 300 thousand landowners should finally be free of payment, in addition to all people with disabilities (PCDs). This will also include drivers who have moderate autism and who can therefore drive without major impediments.

Check the year of manufacture of your car
To find out whether or not you can be exempt from paying the IPVA, you will need to check the year of manufacture of your vehicle. That's because the 100% discount will be exclusive to older car models. In fact, this is a measure available throughout Brazil, although there is a variation between 10 and 30 years depending on the state.
For example, in the state of São Paulo, the vehicle must be manufactured 20 years ago or more, as well as Rio Grande do Sul, Acre, Paraná and others. In most of the country, such as Amazonas, Pará, Bahia, Paraíba, Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, the vehicle must be at least 15 years old. In addition, the exemption that takes the longest to arrive is in the state of Santa Catarina, where the term is 30 years. In Rio Grande do Norte, Goiás and Roraima, this minimum period is 10 years.
I'm PCD: How to get the exemption?
In this case, it will be necessary to resort to the Instituto Medicinal Social e de Criminologia de São Paulo (Imesc), or an equivalent body in your state. This body will be responsible for making available the list of accredited clinics where you can have a medical examination to prove your condition. And if you're from the state of São Paulo, it's good to hurry, because the benefit request will be available to this public until June 1st. So, just wait, as the exemption can take up to two months from the request.
