Bitcoin for IPTU payment in Rio de Janeiro

On January 13, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD), communicated at an event about the investment of 1% of the City Treasury in cryptocurrencies. Thus, the municipality will invest in a currency called Crypto Rio so that the city's inhabitants can pay IPTU with the new digital currency.

In addition, all those who use bitcoins to pay IPTU will have access to lower prices. The reason for this possibility is to contribute to investment in technological innovation and tax incentives. In addition, the city of Rio de Janeiro published a decree in the Official Gazette to develop further actions in the cryptocurrency market.

Other technological innovations in Rio de Janeiro

Mayor Eduardo Paes also disclosed other innovations in technology that have been made in the municipality. One of the fiscal investments is the creation of Porto Maravalley, which is a large space containing technology companies and startups.

The Secretary of Economic Development of Rio de Janeiro, Chicão Bulhões, also commented on the city's plans to use virtual currencies. The idea is that the metropolis actively uses cryptocurrencies, encouraging the habit through tax discounts, especially IPTU.

The calculation is based on the current total IPTU quota discount, which is 7%. So, if the payment is made entirely with bitcoin, the reduction can reach 10%.

Specialists believe that Rio de Janeiro has great capacity to act and encourage this sector technology, in addition to encouraging companies that provide technology to expand to other parts of the world. state.
