In the publication, Carolina Jesper says that, after reading the company name printed on the pot, she thought the packaging was edible and made from cassava.
Thus, she believed that the material was fit for consumption. When finishing her ice cream, she bit the wrapper and, only then, realized the error of perception.
With more than a thousand shares and 35 thousand likes, the report was followed by many comments from people who were in doubt if the product was really edibleor not. In addition, many people questioned whether ingesting it would be harmful.
What did the brand say about the customer's mistake?
Due to the high visibility of the publication, the subject reached the company Já Fui Mandioca. Then, the CEO of the brand, Stelvio Mazza, made a statement to clarify the doubts of everyone on the internet.
He informed that the biodegradable material cannot be consumed, but that it would not harm the client's health, since it is not toxic.
In an interview with PEGN Magazine, Mazza informed that “despite being non-toxic, natural and ecologically correct, our packaging is not recommended for consumption”. Furthermore, the biodegradable pot has no nutritional value or taste.

This type of deception is nothing new for the manufacturer. In 2021, a Big Brother Brasil participant also read the label about the fact that the product is made from cassava and tried to eat the packaging.
In fact, the packaging is made from cassava starch, which is used as an industrial raw material and is not recommended for food.
The pot is biodegradable, so it can be used for composting. It serves as fertilizer after 90 days and can be dissolved with water in up to 15 days.
After all the controversy, the brand took the opportunity to interact with its followers, asking for tips on more explanatory phrases for packaging. Among the suggestions are phrases such as: “I came from Earth to return to Earth! Don't eat me” and “It's not for eating, it's for fertilizing!”.
Encouraging the use of sustainable materials and biodegradable packaging is important. Mainly for Brazil, which stands out internationally for the production of cassava and for defending the conscious use of natural resources.
