A court hearing was held last week to discuss the recent allegations. From her, the first glimpse of his true identity was discovered: Jon Mulder.
“When he said 'Jon Mulder' in court, it was confirmation. You're not 'Myers,' you're 'Mulder,'" said Naomi Wolf, who met someone last year who she believed was Johnny Myers. She dated him for eight months.
According to Wolf, she met the scammer on Facebook Marketplace, where she bought a motorcycle from him for $10,000. The duo hit it off right away, so they started seeing each other. According to her, the man was very engaging, charismatic and fun to talk to.
He met her children. Furthermore, she went to his family home for dinner. Everything seemed fine, but she soon admitted that the guy became more controlling. Naomi said a friend sent her a link to a Facebook page with the name "We are dating the same man - Toronto". She was very surprised to see his photo under a different name and over a hundred comments from other people. At the time, their relationship was over.
After looking them up, Wolf discovered that many of the things he had told her about her life were simply lies. You know that motorcycle sold story? It actually belonged to Annge Madill, a Peterborough woman who told CTV News Toronto that she met Mulder on a dating app.
Madill pointed out in an interview:
“He started taking advantage of me from the first initial message, although I didn't realize it at the time. He looked like a real gentleman, serenading him with a country love song, wanting to be the first person I talk to in the morning and make me feel really Special. I just fall for it. His personality was larger than life.”
Mulder is accused of several crimes.
Jon Mulder was arrested in 2013 when Oxford OPP made a series of fraud allegations, alleging that he pretended to be a veterinarian to meet women online and then scam them. He was convicted and served 683 days in prison. In Barrie, records show he was accused of fraud of more than $5,000 in 2019. In the same year, he was charged with drunk driving in St. In Belleville.
The man faces two counts of fraud under $5,000, as well as one count of forgery and destruction of books, also with intent to commit fraud. He was charged in Brantford with allegedly cheating Amy Todd out of $60,000 by making her invest in a fake business in 2021. The woman believed the man's name to be Jon Boulder when she met him on the dating site Plenty of Fish.
According to her, Mulder said he had a big business and he kept horses. After gaining her trust, he asked her to invest. The woman almost lost her home. She got a lawyer, so it was determined that Mulder should pay her back, but the woman has yet to see any of that.
Mulder did not appear in court to address any of the charges, so the judge issued an arrest warrant, but the accused could be released on bail. Although Mulder was convicted in 2013, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty on subsequent charges.
