From this measure, cosmetic testing on animals is prohibited so that the effectiveness of the products is proven. The publication of the text in the Official Gazette of the Union has been in effect since last Wednesday, March 1st.
To test the products, now, companies must follow what is recommended by Concea.
Concea originated in 2008, with the aim of prioritizing more humane standards to the detriment of the use of animals in scientific research.
The Council is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the physical integrity of the animal in these tests and granting other alternatives for the tests to be replaced.
The MCTI, in turn, highlighted the importance of the Council:
“The council is made up of Brazilian citizens with a doctoral degree or equivalent in areas such as agricultural and biological sciences, health human and animal science and biotechnology, with representatives appointed by ministries, the academic community and animal protection societies”, she said.
Brazil soars on the international agenda
The measure applied in Brazil is capable of generating a positive result at the international level, having the posture compared even with Europe. Kátia de Angeliz, coordinator of Concea, stated that this is a breakthrough in Brazilian research.
In all, there are more than 40 possible techniques indicated by Concea so that companies do not carry out testing on animals, as stated by coordinator Kátia.
“It is worth noting that the fact that Concea requires the use of alternative methods for new ingredients preserves the possibility of researching our biodiversity and advance even further in this sector, allowing the study of new molecules, with all ethical criteria, in national territory", said the coordinator.
