The pilot realized that the accident was happening and decided that the best way would be to return to the airport where the aircraft left. Fortunately, the landing was made safely. At the airport, other landings and takeoffs had to be postponed by up to two hours due to the accident caused by the Boeing.
The company responsible for the aircraft said that passengers would be relocated on another plane and apologized for the inconvenience.
“We apologize to our customers on Delta Flight 2481 from Charlotte to Detroit, who returned to Charlotte shortly after departure following a reported issue with the aircraft's fuel system. The aircraft landed and taxied to the gate on its own, where it will undergo inspection," Boeing's statement said.
From inside the plane, a passenger related the traumatic experience. By name Lonnie Lane planned to take a trip to Thailand during the period of 15 days and chose the window seat to go to the destination. According to the statement, the passenger claims that he became suspicious as soon as he saw the aircraft take off, saying that there seemed to be something wrong with the aircraft. For him, the plane was similar to a “fire hydrant”, gushing gas non-stop.
Overall, the passengers' report ensured that the pilot was calm and managed to get around the situation. They were advised that they would need to return to Charlotte Airport so that the aircraft could be inspected.
