Electric cars are a promising invention, even more so when it comes to sustainability and fuel economy. However, due to their high value, they have not yet managed to dominate the market. Realizing this, a project that foresees the reduction of the tax can be a solution to reduce the value of these vehicles. Thus, the tax would be reduced to a zero rate until the year 2025. The question that persists is: would this be enough to make the price of electric cars more accessible?

The zero tax project
The bill authored by Senator Irajá (PSD/TO), PL 403/2022, was approved in February this year. This month, the project awaits the choice of rapporteur in the Economic Affairs Commission (CAE). The idea is to eliminate import taxes on electric and hybrid vehicles by December 31, 2025.
With this, the goal is to boost sales of electric cars and boost this product that was not well accepted by the Brazilian consumer market. After all, the price of a simple electric car is the equivalent of a luxury car in the country.
The expectation is that prices may decrease over the years and that they take up more and more space, given that they represent a great advance in reducing the emission of polluting gases.
The elimination of taxes guarantees a reduction in prices
The intention of the tax reduction may represent a change in sales, but experts say that it will not be enough to lower the price of cars to a popular value. That is, even with the measure, these cars will still remain at a high value.
Thus, the only way to lower the price of electric cars would be a reduction in production component values.
Making Brazil a country aligned with the issue of sustainability like European countries is still far from being a reality. However, it is not impossible. The most important thing is the first step already taken and the search for other alternatives to lower the cost and allow everyone to have access to electric cars.
