Figures released by the Central Bank this Wednesday (19) revealed that Pix, an instant payment system, recorded in March 2023 a record 3,003,362 transactions, surpassing the mark of 3 million monthly transactions for the first time. The monetary value of the transfers carried out was also a record, with R$ 1.28 trillion in balance moved.
This increase in transactions came after two straight months of falling Pix usage. In January and February of this year, the number of transfers was around 2.5 million, below the average for the end of 2022. The previous record had been recorded in December last year, with 2.873 million operations.

The results prove the growing popularity of Pix, which has become since March 2021 the main means of payment for Brazilians. According to a survey released by the Central Bank this Wednesday, Pix is the second most used instant transfers in the world, second only to the Indian system of transfers.
The popularization of the system has been driven by the convenience and speed of financial transactions. Pix allows bank transfers to be carried out in real time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays and weekends. In addition, the modality is free for individuals, which makes it very attractive for consumers.
The Covid-19 pandemic was also an important factor in joining Pix. With social isolation measures and restrictions on cash circulation, digital transactions have become more common and secure.
Pix's success has encouraged the Central Bank to launch new features for the modality, such as the possibility of carrying out withdrawals from stores and commercial establishments and the integration of the system with the main e-commerce platforms in the country. With this, it is expected that the number of transactions will continue to grow in the coming months, consolidating Pix as one of the main forms of payment in Brazil.
