Learn how to sow with an egg carton

Many species of plants can be grown directly in their final location, without having to go through smaller pots before going to the garden or flower bed. However, when we have little green space this alternative is not interesting, but we can sow with an egg box.

After all, the area will be occupied for a long time until the seed germinates and turns into an adult plant. Thinking about it, a good option is to use seedbeds, that is, small spaces of land where the seeds will develop.

How to make

It is important to emphasize that we are referring to cardboard boxes, plastic ones are not suitable for seeding.

To assemble it you won't have to work at all, just choose a plate and open a small hole in the bottom of each hole, the tip is to use a cutting edge knife to do it.

Then just add the soil and seeds in the holes and your sowing will be ready, but see below some tips to know how to use it correctly.

How to use

Sowing soil must be conducive to seed development, so bet on a well-fertilized and aerated substrate. So, buy your own substrate for this or mix common land with fertilizer or vermiculite.

Another important point is that seeds need a humid environment to germinate, always be aware of your watering schedule to keep the soil wet.

Do not place the seedbed in a place that has direct sunlight, because excessive sun can burn the small seedlings. To avoid this direct light, you can invest in a shade screen or improvise one with a very thin old fabric.

Transplant

The seedlings can be planted in the bed when they are – at least – 2 cm high, but it is necessary to adapt them to the solar incidence to prevent them from withering and burning to death.

Then, slowly expose the seedling to the sun for 3 days so that the seedlings get used to it. After this process, just cut the holes carefully and remove the plants to place them in their final location.
