THE Rio+20, United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, will be held between days June 13th and 22nd in the city of Rio de Janeiro. This conference is being considered as one of the biggest meetings on sustainable development in recent times, and its objectives are renew the political commitment to sustainable development, evaluating what has been done in recent years and verifying the gaps existing in the implementation of decisions taken at the main meetings on sustainable development, in addition to discussing current and emerging.
Several events will take place simultaneously with the Rio+20, in several places in the city of Rio de Janeiro, and it is in the Riocenter, located in Barra da Tijuca, where the plenary sessions and official conference negotiations will be held. Riocentro will also be the stage for the “Dialogues for Sustainable Development”, a series of debates in which members of civil society will discuss issues on the international development agenda sustainable. Access to Riocentro depends on accreditation by the UN.
O Athletes' Park, also located in Barra da Tijuca, will host exhibitions from foreign countries, government organizations and also the Government Brazil, with important emphasis on the Brazil Pavilion, where programs and projects to promote development will be presented sustainable. At Parque dos Atletas, there will also be a space for debates, seminars and round tables.
Civil society will have a functional structure close to Riocentro called the Arena da Barra. In its rooms, auditoriums and gym, seminars, lectures and other activities will be held. Arena da Barra will also serve as a relay center for events at Riocentro and other conference venues.
Located in the city center of Rio de Janeiro, the Flemish Park will be used to carry out the People's Summit, and even in the city center the Modern Art Museum (MAM) will house in its galleries thematic exhibitions of renowned Brazilian artists and an exhibition of the campaign “The future we want”. The museum will also stage the Arena Socioambiental, a series of events coordinated by the Ministry of Social Development.
At the Maua Pier, also located downtown, there will be presentations on innovation, sustainable technologies and sustainability programs. Several projects from the Federal Government, Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep) and civil society will be presented and disseminated.
Located next to Pier Mauá, the Citizenship Action Cultural Center will receive cultural events organized by Ministry of Culture, being organized seminars, musical presentations, exhibitions, workshops, audiovisual and gastronomy exhibitions with a focus on sustainability.
O space humanity 2012, installed on the Copacabana Fort, will bring together mayors of the most important cities in the world to exchange experiences, in addition to holding seminars, debates and art exhibitions. Access to the space is free and completely open to the public, with no registration required.
As we have seen, the Rio+20 provides several spaces for members of civil society interested in participating in the conference. People who cannot go to the city of Rio de Janeiro, but who also want to participate in the conference, can access the Total Schedule, a virtual meeting place that aims to facilitate virtual dialogue, in addition to allowing the sharing of information and content related to the conference's events.
