Prosopagnosia is a type of neurological disorder that hinders the ability to recognize objects and people, even if they are very close. For this reason, individuals with the condition fail to identify facial features of others and, that way, they usually identify them through other characteristics, such as hair, voice or clothes.
It is a rare disease, capable of affecting up to one in 50 people to some degree. In addition, there are different degrees of prosopagnosia. Some may have difficulty recognizing familiar faces or distinguishing who is who among several familiar faces. On the other hand, others cannot even differentiate a face from an object, or may even fail to recognize their own face.
