What does the INSS do?
As stated earlier, the National Institute of Social Security handles the payment of retirement and other benefits. These benefits can be paid to workers themselves or to other types of insured persons, such as individual micro-entrepreneurs and individual taxpayers.
Among the main social security benefits are: old-age retirement; due to disability; by time of contribution; special retirement; sickness benefit; death benefit; special pension; aid-seclusion; maternity allowance and family allowance.
The people who are entitled to the benefit are employees with a formal contract; temporary contract; employee directors; workers with an elective mandate; public agency service providers and employees of Brazilian national companies. In addition to these, temporary workers, domestic workers and individual taxpayers are also on the list.
