Resources for technology and science will be replenished by 2027
The Provisional Measure mentioned by the minister, which will be revoked, M.P. 1,136/2022, establishes the limits for the application of FNDCT resources in expenses, and today this device authorizes the contingency of resources, providing for their reestablishment at 100% only for the year 2027.
These statements by the minister were made while the new president of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), physicist Ricardo Galvão, was being announced. Galvão has a doctorate in plasma physics, held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
In addition, Galvão was director of the Brazilian Center for Physical Research (CBPF) from 2004 to 2011, member of the European Society of Physics from 2013 to 2016, president of the Brazilian Society of Physics, also from 2013 to 2016, director of the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe) between 2016 and 2019. He is currently a full professor at the Institute of Physics at the University of São Paulo.
The current president of CNPq became better known when he was exonerated from the board of directors of the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), in 2019, after releasing the results of satellite monitoring on the condition of deforestation in the Amazon, which broke records in terms of tree felling.
During the event, Galvão said that “our science survived a political cataclysm. Today, we turn this sad page of our history with the conviction that science will once again promote great advances for our society through the authority of knowledge”.
