Amazon plans Netflix-style Prime Video changes, faces rejection from fans

According to The Wall Street Journal, The Amazon Prime is currently in preliminary discussions to launch an ad-supported subscription, following in Netflix's footsteps by offering a more affordable option to users. The offer is still in the early stages and has been the subject of negotiations in recent weeks.

In November of last year, Netflix launched its Basic plan with ads, priced at R$18.90 a month, in response to the rising cost of living for many users. Apparently, another streaming platform will also follow the same path.

Amazon currently offers its Prime subscription, which includes Prime Video, for BRL 14.90 per month. In addition, Prime subscribers have access to complementary services such as HBO Max, Paramount Plus and Showtime through Prime Video channels.

The platform became the target of criticism, mainly for presenting a limited catalog of content. Still, the alternative seems to be well analyzed by the company.

Amazon intends to deploy ads on the platform

According to The Wall Street Journal, Amazon is considering showing more ads to existing Prime subscribers and, later, offer an alternative so that they can pay for a more affordable service and without adverts.

This strategy aims to explore different revenue models and offer users a choice between a cheaper, ad-supported subscription or a premium, ad-free option.

Amazon is in talks with Discovery, Paramount and Warner Bros to include ad-supported versions of HBO Max and Paramount Plus on its main video channels. The main purpose of the platform is to diversify the content it offers to the subscriber public.

Although commercial breaks are described as brisk, some subscribers have expressed dissatisfaction and stated that they can opt out of this option.
