10 very rare and valuable Barbie dolls - do you know them all?
The first Barbie (1959)
Her first name! The initial model of the Barbie doll cost less than R$ 150 in the UK (with corrected inflation) when it was launched. Today, this model of the toy can be worth BRL 133,000 on the collectors' market – if it is in good condition and with the untouchable vintage look.
Barbie Dahlia (2006)
This model of the doll was designed by Robert Best, who has been designing Barbies for over 25 years. Unlike her "normal" self, she sports voluminous red hair and wears an elegant ball gown. For accessories, she wears flower earrings and a brooch, adorned with Swarovski crystals – is that good for you? Only 999 Barbies of this model were produced and, today, it costs more than R$ 11,000.
Golden Gala Barbie (2009)
Also designed by Robert Best, this Barbie celebrates the doll's 50th birthday. Only 1,200 models were produced at the time, with a golden party dress, very glamorous. She also wears a gold jacket and kid gloves. The costume and makeup are inspired by old Hollywood, so it has a nostalgic vibe. The value? Up to R$7,000 on the collectors' market.
Barbie Holiday Special (1997)
This special Barbie for the holidays can be sold to collectors for up to R$ 5,800. She stands out for being brunette and wearing a red and white dress, with golden details that resemble a large Christmas bow.
Barbie Sophisticated City Smart (2003)
This Barbie is sophistication in toy form. Wearing an elegant little black tube and a “rich woman” hat, as well as pearls and a delicate glove, this doll can be found for up to R$ 5,600 – that's because only 600 of these darlings were produced.
Barbie Byron Lars Coco (2007)
This doll was designed by American fashion designer Byron Lars. She stands out because she was, until that moment, the first Barbie to have large, three-dimensional eyelashes. She wears pearls around her neck, fashionista clothes and, perhaps, was one of the first dolls from the brand to celebrate the beauty of black skin. The model reaches R$ 5,300.
Special Edition 2000 Celebration Barbie (2000)
You 2000's they were amazing, weren't they? To celebrate the turn of the millennium, Mattel launched a commemorative Barbie – whose value, today, reaches R$ 5,100. She wears a gold and silver dress with fur trim around her neck and comes with a white Christmas tree decoration ball with gold accents that says “2000”.
Barbie Nanny Accessories (1963)
Okay, it's not a doll, but it's from the Barbie collection, and it's rare and worth money. In 1963, Mattel released a Barbie babysitting accessory kit featuring: a bottle, baby food, apron, phone, diaper and even a baby. The vintage kit can be worth up to R$5,000.
Harvey Nichols Special Edition Barbie (1995)
In 1995, Mattel launched a special Barbie collection in partnership with British department store Harvey Nichols. The doll wears a pink jacket and black miniskirt and sports some stylish accessories. Only 250 units of the toy were made, making it extremely rare. Today, it costs around R$4,300 on the collectors' market.
Bob Mackie's Barbie Countess Dracula (2011)
This is perhaps the most “different” Barbie on the list – and with good reason! Stylist Bob Mackie designed this Barbie Countess Dracula in 2011, unlike anything the company has ever released for the doll brand. There are less than 25,000 of them worldwide! In the greatest “glam horror” style, this darling goes for at least R$ 4,300 on resale sites.
