At one point in the fateful announcement, Adam Selipsky regrets the situation. “It's a tough day across our organization,” said the executive.
The memorandum is part of a layoff plan that had already been announced by the company previously. However, it seems that the employees who received it now did not imagine that they would be fired.
Adam Selipsky expressed solidarity with the plight of affected employees. “I am fully aware of the impact on all the people and families affected [by the layoffs],” he said.
“We are working hard to treat everyone impacted with respect and provide multiple resources and touchpoints to help with this transition,” continued Selipsky.
“This also includes packages that include separation pay, transitional health insurance benefits and external job placement support,” promised the CEO.
Before finalizing the memo, the AWS boss thanked the former collaborators. “To those we are saying goodbye to today, thank you for everything you've done for this business and for our customers. I am truly grateful,” quoted Adam.
Reasons for mass layoffs
At one point in the memorandum sent to employees fired this Wednesday, Adam Selipsky informed that the layoffs were caused by restructuring within the company's web services sector. Amazon.
Almost a week ago, Amazon had already fired employees from other sectors. According to internal sources, the dismissals came from a cut in resources announced by the general CEO of the company, Andy Jassy.
Still according to this information, the cuts in expenses would have been motivated by a slowdown in the raising of revenues by the company, especially in the divisions that deal with offering products and services for the internet, as is the case of Amazon Web Services.
Before the cuts announced by Adam Selipsky, Amazon had already laid off about 18,000 employees. With the new layoffs, there are already more than 27 thousand people unemployed by the company in 2023 alone.
In addition, Amazon has also been reducing new hires and halting the progress of projects started in the past.
