You asteroids are rocky and metallic objects that orbit the Sun. They are generally smaller than planets, ranging in size from small rocks to objects hundreds of miles across. Asteroids are mostly found in the asteroid belt, located between Mars and Jupiter, although some are also found in other parts of the solar system. However, a group of asteroids has come close to Earth in the last month. Read the text and learn more about it.

The asteroid 2012 DK31 is approximately 137 meters in diameter, and passed close to Earth in the last week, specifically, on Monday, 27, at 4.8 million kilometers.
Then it was the turn of asteroid 2006 BE55, which passed by Earth on Tuesday, 28, at 3.5 million kilometers, and also measures approximately 137 meters in diameter. Both the 2012 DK31 and the 2006 BE55 are considered very dangerous.
However, the distances were very safe for us inhabitants of the earth. That's because the asteroid that came closest to our planet, at 3.5 million kilometers, had a distance equivalent to 10 times the distance between Earth and the Moon.
In any case, if there is any change in their orbit, putting them on a collision course with the planet Earth, they could cause serious damage. However, orbital data from 2012 DK31 has shown that it poses no impact hazards.
Two other large asteroids passed by the planet. 2007 ED125, an asteroid 213 meters in diameter (the size of a football stadium) was 4.4 million kilometers from our planet.
In addition to the 2021 QW, which measures 76 meters and has passed 5.3 million kilometers.
Other smaller asteroids, 2017 BM123 and 2023 DX, will also approach Earth. One will pass 4.6 million kilometers from the planet and the other 2 million kilometers; both measure 58 meters, a size similar to that of large aircraft.
The orbits have already been calculated by the researchers, however, they may change over several years. decades due to different factors, such as collisions with other asteroids or the gravitational influence of some planet.
If a large enough asteroid were to hit Earth, it could cause extensive damage and even lead to the mass extinction of species.
As a result, scientists are studying ways to mitigate the impact of these potentially dangerous celestial bodies.
