These are the 12 main signs of sensitivity in children

It is not uncommon that, when observing the behavior of their children, fathers and mothers notice some different actions in their daily lives.

In some cases, this behavior may be associated with greater brain sensitivity in these children, which cannot be ignored. This is because more sensitive children tend to react differently to stimuli, whether negative or positive.

As an example, if a parent talks loudly to their sensitive child, that child's small brain may be stimulated to secrete hormones that will make you stressed more quickly, causing a feeling of confusion and/or sadness.

However, this greater sensitivity can also be a good thing if it is well encouraged by fathers, mothers and guardians who are aware of the sensitive child's condition.

To go deeper into this subject, we decided to create this article and list the 12 main signs that a child has above average brain sensitivity.

In addition, we also mentioned what parents can do to use their children's sensitivity to their advantage. Check out!

12 signs that your child is more sensitive than other children

The topic of “highly sensitive children” was first raised by psychologist Elaine Aron, who is specialist in inherited or congenital psychological traits and author of several successful books on the subject.

According to Elaine, the traits of a highly sensitive child are:

  1. They have the ability to notice subtle details, such as their parents' new clothes or a different scent at home;
  2. They are highly receptive to the emotions of others, taking them on as their own;
  3. Have difficulty dealing with intense emotions, such as anger or worry.
  4. Express annoyance about things like rough sheets, annoying clothing tags, or tight waistbands
  5. Feel stressed and exhausted in noisy and busy environments, such as gyms or perfume stores, due to strong odors;
  6. They prefer not to be rushed and perform tasks with care and attention.
  7. They respond better to a gentle approach to correction than to harsh discipline;
  8. They are perceptive and look wise for their age;
  9. Have a smart sense of humor;
  10. They can read people and deduce, with remarkable accuracy, their thoughts or feelings;
  11. Refuse to eat certain foods due to texture or aroma;
  12. They are easily startled by sudden noises, such as someone approaching them.

Does your child show any of these signs? If so, he may have high sensitivity and this can be used to his advantage. See how in the next topics!

5 ways to positively encourage sensitive children

As we have been repeating since the beginning of the article, it is possible -and necessary- to positively stimulate more sensitive children.

To do this, parents must take the following actions:

  • Set the children's expectations in advance, explaining the consequences that each of their actions will have. This avoids disappointment in the little ones;
  • Be kind, calm and serene when disciplining them, without screaming and strident reactions;
  • Train children's emotions, giving them space to express their feelings and fears;
  • Be a true advocate for your child, defending him with strength and at all costs, as long as the situation allows this type of reaction;
  • Show interest in what they like or are doing.

With these practices, the heightened sensitivity of children tends to increase and transform into important virtues.
