This is the same bacteria that killed the grandson of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), little Arthur Araújo Lula da Silva. He was only 7 years old when he passed away.

Dâmilly was hospitalized and was quickly transferred to the ICU. The bacteria, however, quickly caused the generalized infection and multiple organ failure in the student last Sunday, June 11th. She died the next day.

How does the bacteria act in a person's body?

According to the publication of

Folha de S.Paulo, usually the infections per Staphylococcus aureus fluctuate between mild and potentially deadly. The tendency is for the bacteria to infect the skin, most often causing skin abscesses.

However, the pathogen can also travel through the bloodstream and infect anywhere in the body. Or, in more serious cases, like that of Dâmilly and Arthur, causing a generalized infection.

In addition, it should be noted that there are several strains of the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Some of them produce toxins that can cause all the symptoms of severe food poisoning or toxic shock syndrome, for example.

Where is she?

Also according to the publication of the Sheet, the bacterium is present in the nose of about 30% of healthy adults and on the skin of approximately 20% of the population. And, almost always, it stays there temporarily.

It usually infects hospitalized patients or healthcare workers, as these groups are often in infection-prone settings such as hospitals and clinics all the time.

Most contamination happens by moving the bacteria on the face or skin and bringing it to the mouth using the hands. It is also spread by inhaling droplets of saliva or mucus when infected people cough or sneeze.

Want a tip? Wash the hands! Proper hygiene is the best prevention against Staphylococcus aureus and other deadly bacteria.
