Elon Musk offers an $8 counter offer after coming under fire for its plan to charge Twitter users $19.99 a month to get or keep a verified account.
The paid version of the social network will be reformulated by Musk. Currently, the badge is awarded free of charge to celebrities, politicians, athletes and journalists.

Differences for this new account model
To distinguish the official accounts of public persons from the millions of ordinary users who can earn the verification badges, there will be a secondary label below verified people to indicate their titles.
This additional label already exists on the accounts of some US politicians, such as President Joe Biden. In addition, Musk emphasized that the price of the program will be readjusted by country, proportionally to purchasing power parity.
Paid version features
Musk announced an overhaul of the premium service, saying "Twitter's current lords and peasants system sucks for who does and doesn't have a blue badge."
In this way, the service will give you the following benefits:
- Priority on responses, mentions, and search (Musk argues essential to defeating spam/fraud)
- Ability to post long videos and audios;
- Ad reduction;
- Paywall bypass for publishers willing to work with us;
- Allows you to set an NFT as your profile picture.
Musk is well aware that he intends to reduce Twitter's reliance on ad revenue in favor of subscriptions. It hasn't been announced when the new pricing and features will go into effect, but for now, Blue's in-app documentation is for older systems.

Musk also said that Blue would provide the company with “a revenue stream that rewards creators of content,” but did not share details about what these rewards to creators might look like in the practice.
It is unclear how the verification system will work. Historically, it was only offered to a small number of known users who could be imitated, either as a joke or to spread misinformation. However, Musk has said he wants to use the system to control bot spam.
