In January of this year, the Goal announced that it would lay off around 10,000 employees even though it laid off 11,000 in 2022. The company, which controls Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, with Mark Zuckerberg as CEO, said the company had “hired too much” during the Covid-19 pandemic and was now trying to survive the slump.
Economic conditions have affected several sectors, including technology. Companies were able to participate in a “boom” during social distancing, but now they have to deal with the drop in access and with the too many employees, having to make cuts to deal with expenses and low returns – of course, “low” compared to the period pandemic.

Since Meta announced the mass layoffs, many employees have come forward to report how the layoffs went. One of these workers was laid off during the early hours of the day, when he was still sleeping, at 4 am.
Meta employee was fired at 4 am
A terminated employee, Chell Sterioff, indicated that she had been with the company since May 2021 and was not a US resident. Steroff was sleeping peacefully while he received an e-mail from the company, at 4 am, informing him that that would be his last day at work. She reported that she worked for more than 10 years for Microsoft before going to work at Meta.
She recounted the experience on LinkedIn, demonstrating that she is available again for the job market. She thanked for the opportunity to work at Zuckerberg's company and said it was a big change in her life. Before her own resignation, in the first batch of layoffs, she indicated that she was sad to see friends lose their jobs, saying that these were difficult days.
Controversy surrounds Zuckerberg
While Meta triggers layoffs at the company, the CEO got into a controversy that left employees and former employees on alert. Business Insider's report reported that a recent Meta statement reported nearly $2.3 million in 2022 spending on Zuckerberg's private jet travel.
In another statement, the document revealed that $27.1 million was spent in 2022 for other CEO expenses. The disclosure caused some discomfort for the public, although they remained unresponsive about the disclosure.
