Tanning is not an indication of health, but rather a skin reaction to damage caused by UV radiation from the sun. Tanning occurs as an attempt by the body to protect itself from UV rays by increasing the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color. There are also those who know about the damage that tanning can cause, but don't think about giving up the habit.
