Civil War in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a country located on an island in Asia inhabited mainly by Tamil ethnic groups. In 1796, Sri Lanka was occupied by the United Kingdom, which feared invasions during the Napoleonic Wars, and after six years it was handed over to Great Britain.

The search for the independence of the Tamil Homeland and the dependence of such territories on Great Britain motivated the conflict. Despite benefiting from the British government, the LTTE sought independence from their ethnicity. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam - LTTE chose to conquer the territories located in Sri Lanka inhabited by Tamil ethnic groups using the armed struggles as they tried all the democratic forms they knew so that the independence of these territories would be peaceful and they did not obtain success.

Violently, the LTTE used conventional bombs and suicide bombers to reach civilian and political targets. Such civil war is considered a low intensity conflict, but it has been going on since 1983. The conflict already adds up to more than 65,000 dead and tends to continue until their objectives are achieved.
