Sleep routine and quality of life are studied by physiotherapy students

A group of doctoral students from the physiotherapy from UFSCar, decided to conduct a survey to assess daytime sleepiness, predisposition to sleep apnea and the quality of life of university professors, who work directly with public education Brazilian. It is noteworthy that the study will be carried out through an electronic questionnaire, produced by the students themselves.

For doctoral student Maria Isabel Triches, prolonged sitting or lack of physical activity can trigger a scenario of sedentary and stressful work activities, even becoming a risk to physical and mental health, causing damage to the quality of life of these professionals.

In addition, it reinforces that a sedentary lifestyle can contribute to obesity, awakening automatically the Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome, a very alarming condition due to the potential life-threatening.

Triches also recalls that studies carried out recently showed one in three teachers with excessive daytime sleepiness, resulting in a lower quality of life and stressful routines.

According to Maria Isabel, it is important to be aware of the manifestation of the syndrome, which has the following characteristics: excessive sleepiness; non-restorative sleep; depression and fatigue.

In addition, the study will contain three assessments, provided every six months for a year. The results will be made available individually, and if the teachers present the syndrome, a follow-up with a specialized professional in the area will be recommended.
