The lifespan of a dog

During the pandemic, it was observed that many people started to include a new four-legged friend in the family. But when choosing a new pet, there's a lot to think about, considering there are 221 different breeds.

However, there is a substantial gap between races that live longer and shorter. A search through a VetCompass database of the Royal Veterinary College with information on more than 2 million animals, calculated the average life expectancy of some breeds in the UK.

To carry out this survey, the researchers collected varied samples from 30,563 dogs that died between January 1, 2016 and July 31, 2020, and thus drew their conclusions.

Small dogs tend to live longer than large dogs. Therefore, the Yorkshire Terrier is first on this list, with an average life expectancy of 12.54 years.

2. jack russel terrier

The Jack Russell Terrier was the breed analyzed by the study with the longest life, reaching an average age of 12.72 years.

3 .Border Collie

The Border Collie has a life expectancy of 12.10 years.

4. springer spaniel

A Springer Spaniel lives for about 11.92 years.

5. labrador retriever

The Labrador Retriever is Britain's most popular dog and has a life expectancy of 11.77 years on average.

6. Cocker Spaniel
