Brazilian consumers should pay attention to the new decision by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), which prohibited the sale of a specific batch of the salt Carrefour kitchenware.
The decision came after some analyzes failed to certify the amount of iodine required by law. Because of this, last week Anvisa decided to stop the sale of the product. The decision was published in the Official Gazette (DOU) of Wednesday, July 5th.

More than prohibiting the circulation, commercialization, distribution and manufacture of the product, the agency was more demanding. The measure ordered the immediate recall of all packets of kitchen salt of the aforementioned brand that are under the batch 22992.
Understand what the company says about table salt prohibited by Anvisa
It is worth noting, first of all, that all table salt must contain iodine. This requirement has existed in Brazil since 1950, that is, for over 70 years.
When the substance is not placed satisfactorily, consumers may suffer from deficiency of some micronutrients in the body. As a consequence, it is possible that congenital anomalies arise, in addition to goiter.
In a note, the Carrefour group confirmed that the tests carried out in May showed that the table salt produced was within the parameters stipulated by law. However, the company complied with Anvisa's decision and withdrew the lot in question from the sales shelves.

“We inform you that we carry out recurring reviews on all our private label products. The aforementioned product was tested in May of this year, and, at the time, the analyzed samples were within the parameters established by Anvisa. We also reinforce that we immediately request the withdrawal of the product from batch 22992 in all stores that it is available and that we are in contact with the supplier to find out the fact", said the document.
Consumers who have purchased products from the aforementioned batch must take them to the responsible establishment to exchange or return them.
