Meet Amazon's Project Kuiper
The Kuiper Project was approved in 2020 by the Federal Communications Commission, when Amazon said it would invest more than $ 10 billion for projections to come out of paper.
It is part of the online retail giant's plan to build more than 3,000 satellite networks in low Earth orbit, ensuring that the whole world has quality internet with good speed.
The first antennas implemented follow a pattern, measuring less than 11 inches square, weighing less than 5 pounds and being 1 inch thick. Customers will have access to speeds of up to 400 MBPS (megabits per second).
There is the model known as “ultracompact”, and Amazon said it will be smaller and more affordable: 7 inches and weight of 1 pound, offering a connection of 100 MBPS.
The company aims to offer the connection for homes, for governments and for companies. Dave Limp, senior vice president of devices and services at Amazon, did not indicate how much it will cost. the manufacture of ultra-compact antennas, only stated that they will be made of a “cheaper material”.
The monthly cost of the service was not disclosed by Amazon. When showing off the new devices, Dave Limp stated that the company was excited about what's coming. The project is to produce satellites on a large scale by the end of this year.
