This law was introduced on May 29 and generated much controversy among dog advocates in the country. Entitled “Regulation of Possession of Dangerous Animals and Dogs”, it presented a list of dog breeds that are considered dangerous and compromise the safety of citizens.

Among several, we can highlight the husky, pitbull, rottweiler, German shepherd and the Great Dane.

What should be done after approval?

After the approval was announced, the owners of the dogs that they will have just one month to hand over their animals or prepare for confiscatory raids.

In addition, the government has exposed the breeds that will be accepted for pets, which will be: cocker, spaniel, labrador, poodle, malinois, pomeranian, jack russell terrier, white shepherd, maltese and samoyed.

After all, what will happen to these dogs?

First of all, it is worth mentioning that the government did not present a plausible justification for the selection. The law itself says that the dogs will undergo all necessary care, however, there is no commitment to keep them alive.

The bill came after a banker was attacked by a pit bull and died after three days in hospital. There are possibilities that the death was due to medical negligence, however, the media blamed the dog for the accident and demanded that the authorities take some action.

The law is expected to come into effect only a year from now, however, animal owners are already requesting documents so that their pets able to travel and therefore not be exposed to this regulation.
