Abicab (Brazilian Association of the Chocolate Industry, Peanutand Balas) emphasizes the clear importance of the chocolate sector for the Brazilian market.

According to the Association itself, in the first quarter of 2023, there was an increase of almost 10% in the production of candy across the country, adding up to more than 219 thousand tons.

In 2022, on the other hand, chocolate consumption surpassed the mark of 750 thousand tons produced in the country. Brazil is one of the few countries in the world that manages to concentrate all stages of the food production chain internally.

Currently, the Brazilian average during the year 2022 was around 3.6 kg per person – a considerable increase, beating the 3.2 kg per person in 2021. Abicab revealed that this number, year after year, tends to increase, but that there is still room for growth.

The data indicate that the biggest factor for the increase is the population having more money to be able to include the purchase of chocolates when they go to the market.
