The study was conducted at the University of the Negev in Israel, and among the various foods cited, the researchers highlighted vegetables, seafood, whole grains, and olive oil. According to them, all of them can slow down the weakening of the brain in situations of obesity.
The diet stands out for the presence of fresh products, lean proteins and olive oil. All of them are full of antioxidant properties. The results of the studies said that these foods could delay brain aging by up to nine months when compared to chronological age.
How was this research carried out?
To arrive at the aforementioned conclusions, the researchers sought 102 participants and gave them proposed to do several brain scans before there was any change in their habits food.
The entire observation process lasted 18 months and candidates received one of three possible diets. In his menu there were nuts, fish and chicken. Red meat, on the other hand, was left out. In addition, there was the inclusion of green tea, as it was all about following the average dietary guidelines.
What factors were monitored?
Once the participants started the new food routine, researchers began to monitor blood biomarkers, fat deposition and body mass index. Other factors considered were liver function, cholesterol levels and body weight.
In the end, it was observed that people lost an average of 2.5 kilos and everyone's brains looked nine months younger when compared to their chronological age. Another explanation for this brain retardation was due to decreased levels of fat in the liver and improved lipid profile.
In general, the researchers said that the study also served to show everyone how important it is to have a healthy lifestyle for maintaining the brain health, including lower consumption of alcoholic beverages.
