Archaeological discovery in Germany sparks curiosity around the world

A find in this field typically refers to finds that can range from ancient artifacts to large archaeological structures and sites. They all help to broaden our knowledge about the history and the culture of ancient civilizations. Recently, in 2021, a ′′ wishing well ′′ of more than 3 thousand years was found in a certain region of Germany.

Experts say AI is a force for good

This discovery ended up being disclosed only the following year, in order to add it to the list of Preservation of Monuments. The well located is about five meters deep and more than 3,000 years old, according to archaeologists. And unlike what we imagine today, the well was not full of coins, but objects such as vases and other utensils that were valuable at the time, such as crockery and even decorated pots.

There was also a bracelet, two metal coils and an animal's tooth studded.

What does this well mean?

According to the researchers, all the objects placed inside the well served as an “offering” so that they would have a good harvest. At least that's what Mathias Pfeil, head of the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments, points out.

“Today, we can no longer understand what reasons motivated our ancestors to offer jewelry and other valuable gifts 3,000 years ago. It would be likely, however, that these items were sacrifices for a good harvest.”

In addition to Mathias Pfeil, Jochen Haberstroh also shared information.

“It is extremely rare for a well to survive more than 3,000 years so well. Its wooden walls have been completely preserved at the bottom and are still partially damp from groundwater. We hope this will provide us with more information about the daily lives of settlers at the time.”

One of the main reasons for hiding jewelry in wells is security. In the past, it was common for people to hide their objects of value in places that are difficult to find and access, in order to protect them from thieves or intruders. A deep, covered well would be an ideal place to hide these items, as it would be difficult for someone to locate them without a careful and intentional search.

Still according to researchers, wells like the one found were normally used to serve as a source of supply. When the water level dropped, people began to use them differently.
