In order to help the families that were affected by the heavy rains in the regions of Alagoas and Pernambuco, Caixa Econômica Federal announced that it will release the FGTS calamity withdrawal for workers.

The idea with this type of withdrawal is that the worker can have access to a percentage of the balance that is in the account, to help him in the maintenance of what may have been affected by the heavy rains.
The 'calamity withdrawal' can only be requested in case of personal, urgent and serious need, resulting from natural disasters that have specifically affected the area where the worker resides.

Who can apply for the FGTS 'calamity withdrawal'?
According to the information on the website of the
Caixa Econômica Federal, this type of FGTS withdrawal can only be requested if:- The worker has a balance in his FGTS account;
- The worker has not requested the calamity withdrawal for less than 12 months.
Following these specifics, workers can receive up to R$ 6,220 as a maximum amount. However, everything will depend on the amount you have available for withdrawal.
How to apply?
The application can be made at any Caixa agency, but you can also do it without leaving home, through the FGTS application, which is available for Android and iOS. After logging into your app account, you must:
- Select the “My Withdrawals” option and search for “Other Withdrawal Options – Public Calamity”;
- Search for your city;
- Forward the necessary documents (document with photo of the holder and proof of residence on behalf of the applicant);
- Wait for the analysis of the documents.
Upon approval, the calamity loot will be credited to an account of your choice. It is important to emphasize that proof of residence must be in the name of the worker and must also have been issued up to 120 days before the State declares a situation of public calamity.
