After the increase in the minimum wage base and, also, the wage readjustment of civil servants, there was a 2.33% increase in consumption by Brazilian families, according to the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Abras).
April was the month with the highest index, totaling 2.14%, surpassing the previous months. According to the vice-president of Abras, Marcio Milan, the increase in valuethat families receive may have contributed to a better financial organization.

In addition, Milan attributed this moment also to the exemptions of the Income tax for Individuals (IRPF), which was expanded in May of this year, after the increase in the national base salary.
Another point is that, despite the value of the basic food basket having dropped slightly from April to May (from R$ 751.29 to R$ 750.22), the price of most products in the basic basket fell more accentuated.
However, some others had increases that may compensate, as in the case of tomatoes, milk and, also, cosmetics for daily use, such as shampoo.
Another factor that contributed to families also increasing their consumption in the markets is the emergence of new brands, ensuring more accessible varieties for consumers. According to Milan, with less income, individuals had to research and think more about the brands.
Difference between periods
The data for the first quarter of this year are quite different from the same period last year. That's because, in that period, there was a big difference in prices, mainly for more, due to the war in Ukraine. The increase in costs in the world reflected in the Brazilian market.
However, at the time, the average amounts received from both the minimum wage and government social benefits were lower. In May of this year, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) introduced the new value of the national minimum wage, of R$ 1,320.
In addition, the number of Bolsa Família beneficiaries was increased, and the minimum payment of R$ 600, instituted during the Bolsonaro Government, was maintained, but with additional conditioned additions.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that civil servants also had salary adjustments after some time of frozen salaries, which also helped to warm up the economy.
