Products that will be removed from McCafé's menu are apple fritters, blueberry muffins and cinnamon rolls.
The foods were introduced in October 2020 and, according to the company, marked the first addition of bakery items to McDonald's main menu in over eight years.
Goodbyes are not easy
In a statement sent to the press, the company explains that the reason for the change is an adjustment in the menu to suit what the fans want.
“We know goodbyes are never easy – but fans can still satisfy their longings for candy with our iconic chocolate chip cookies, baked apple pie and frozen desserts in our restaurants,” added the company.
Despite the reason for the change being the fans' preferences, many did not agree with the fastfood chain's choices, which generated many debates and tweets about the situation.
“McDonald's went too far by discontinuing the cinnamon roll. This is the worst decision by McDonald's in years," wrote one customer on Twitter.
Is there something else behind this decision?
In February 2022, McDonald's stated that it was expanding its test market with Krispy Kreme - a donut and coffee company. Cities across the United States like Louisville, Kentucky and Lexington were able to sample a variety of donut flavors, such as chocolate with confection.
"The trial will help us learn more about operational impact on a larger scale, as well as explore customer demand," said McDonald's. "The donuts are available all day at the restaurant, drive-thru, McDelivery and the McDonald's app," the company added.
Could this be the reason behind the removal of McCafé items?
