Understand the new scam applied by criminals in the Uber app
The complaint of the crime was released by the delegate Francisco Del Poente, who works in the 1st Police District of Mogi das Cruzes (SP).
He released a video on social media to communicate the alert and prevent possible new victims.
“You call the Uber transport service and monitor the approach of the car. He approaches, but you cannot see him in the indication. Careful. From there, the blow will begin. And if this happens, immediately cancel this call, because the 'turbocharged' application, fraudulent, will open a long journey that you did not take. And you will suffer. So, attention: the car approached, but you are not visualizing it, immediately cancel the trip, for your safety”, informed the delegate.
If you notice something like that, the best thing to do is cancel the ride within the Uber app and wait a bit to call another driver. Otherwise, you could end up paying a lot more for the service!
prevent yourself
It is important to highlight that Uber has a tool to prevent scams and help increase customer safety.
Passengers can provide a verification code to the driver before starting the ride. In this way, it is possible to know that both have the same route information.
However, the code must be provided exclusively by the passenger, never by the driver. This needs to be done after checking all the data for the race and the car in question.
The activation of the tool can be done through the Uber application itself, in the option “Check Your Trip”. The 4-digit password must be provided to the called driver.
However, the scam comes when the driver asks for this code before starting the trip. Then he uses another external app to change the navigation data and take a longer and more expensive route.
