Of course, some take longer to develop and others need proper temperatures and soil, so we have listed some characteristics about them that are important for you to know before starting the works.
Choose what consumes the most and put this new activity into practice.
Cress
It is possible to grow watercress in boxes, vases or planters with a depth of 20 cm, even in apartments, as the plant adapts well to temperatures between 12º and 20º degrees at night.
For successful planting, it is important to use soil rich in organic matter, with a pH of 6 to 6.8, and to maintain soil moisture through daily irrigation, without soaking it.
Harvesting is usually carried out about two months after planting, but it is possible to prolong the cultivation by removing some leaves so that new ones can sprout. It is recommended to produce your own fertilizer at home, without the use of chemical products.
Tip: Once a week you can apply a pest control repellent.
Spinach
To grow spinach, it is recommended to start in a disposable cup with holes in the bottom, putting organic compost in half of the cup and filling the rest with organic soil. Then place two seeds at a depth of about 1 cm and water daily, leaving the glass in semi-shade.
When they reach about 7 to 9 cm, the seedlings can be transplanted to the final location. The ideal soil for planting should be rich in organic matter, drained and with good nitrogen content, with a pH between 6 and 7. It is necessary to water daily, without soaking the soil.
Spinach harvesting can begin after about three months, removing the outermost leaves that are well developed. This vegetable is more suitable for regions with a mild climate, with a temperature ranging from 13 to 20 degrees.
Broccoli
Planting can be done in disposable cups with holes underneath, using a mixture of earthworm humus and vegetable land. Seeds (usually 4 to 5 per cup) should be planted about 1 cm deep and watered daily.
After approximately four weeks, the seedlings can be transplanted to a permanent location with soil rich in organic matter and pH between 6 and 7.
Watering should be daily, without soaking the soil. Broccoli can be harvested after about 100 days by cutting off the closed heads before they start to open. If the foot is not completely cut off, new lateral shoots may appear.
