In the implosion of a submarine, the force of water is very intense. If the structure of the vehicle cannot withstand this force, it can be torn apart. Experts point out that this may have been the reason for the tragedy of the Titanic submarine that was on an expedition to visit the wreckage of the Titanic
According to the company Ocean Gate, the five crew members of the Titanic submarine are dead. The information was announced this afternoon, June 22, by the company OceanGate.
The company also disclosed that the wreckage of the vessel was found. OceanGate located pieces of the submarine, such as a cone that was in front, a part of the front of the vehicle and another part that was situated in the back of the pressure cabin.
The submarine that visited the Titanic disappeared last Sunday (18). The United States Coast Guard warned that the vehicle imploded.
Do not stop now... There's more after the publicity ;)
What is a submarine implosion?
The implosion of a submarine is explained by physics professor Xerxes Adorno. According to him, as the submarine is in the water, the water makes a force from the outside in, so it pushes the walls of the submarine.
"In the implosion of a submarine, the water force is very great, as the submarine sinks. So, if the structure of the submarine does not support this force, it can dent, or have a crack, then it will push and as if it had really been crushed. The submarine breaks and enters water and disintegrates, shatters", explains the professor.
Physical explanation for a submarine implosion
Professor Xerxes comments that the physical explanation for the implosion of the submarine is hydrostatic. "Every fluid exerts pressure. The greater the depth of the liquid, the greater the pressure. As the density of water is a thousand times greater, for every ten meters it sinks, the pressure increases by one atmosphere," he says.
Professor Xerxes exemplifies: if a submarine is diving to a depth of 50 meters, it will feel pressure which will generate a force equivalent to six times atmospheric pressure, so the hull cannot withstand it and could burst.
